Break me, Rosa
Description: Rosa Diaz tries to break Jill Valentine's hard shell. Will she be able to break the strong cop down? (Well, obviously, or else this crossover wouldn't exist. Just try to immerse yourself a little!)
I've wanted to do a scene like this with Rosa for a while, and even wrote a half-ass draft somewhere with an OC. The problem is, an OC here seems really pointless (I mean, how can I introduce her without being boring?). So I tried to find another female cop to do a crossover with (no one in Brooklyn-99 would fit what I sought). Jill Valentine was the perfect candidate, but unfortunately it's not a character that is that developed (and I have played the remake of RE3 yet). So I'm sorry if she seems a little OOC sometimes.
Shaw's bar was the place of choice for the 99th precinct to celebrate anything.
It was the end of the first Halloween Heist, of which Jake emerged victorious. But for this glorious victory, he had to thank Jill, the newly transferred cop, who helped him in exchange of a week's worth of paperwork.
Everyone as celebrating, shouting, laughing and fighting, except Jill herself, who used this commotion to draw herself nearer to the bar and enjoy a lone beer.
After a short while, she heard a familiar voice from behind her.
"What are you doing back there?"
It was Rosa, who seemingly noticed her escape.
Jill waved her half-drunk beer around. "What do you want me to do? Cheer up like a child? I've won, been dragged here by my teammate who wanted to celebrate like it was the greatest achievement of his life, the only thing for me to do is drink a bit alone, then go home." She pointed at her bottle. "Want one?"
Rosa raised an eyebrow slightly before shaking her head.
"Uh huh," she said dryly, crossing her arms, eyeing the ex-STARS.
Jill frowned. "What?"
"I don't buy it. You seem tense. This isn't like you."
With a lazy gesture, Jill orders a beer for her fellow policewoman.
"I'm still sick of the STARS dissolution. Political maneuvers ain't good for public safety. No offense, but being a detective is a straight-up downgrade for me. In these past three months, the most constructive I did was helping Perralta win his little game. So yeah, I'm bummed out."
Rosa, arms still crossed, leaned against the counter to look at her in the eyes.
"Cut the crap. You don't suddenly feel lonely because your team was disbanded several months ago. There's something else."
Jill takes a slow sip for her beer, then sighs.
"Well, I told you, I fucking am lonely here, and it's beginning to eat me at my core. I got almost no action on the field, I don't feel like I've an impact on anything anymore, and I can't even remember the last time I went on a date."
Rosa cast a half-smile at her.
"Got a lot of pussy in the special force?"
Jill shook her head. "From time to time, but not really. I was busy. But not anymore. The point is, if I don't have any action, I need some action."
The barman brought the ordered beer. Rosa took it without getting her eyes off her partner, watching her emptying her bottle and ordering another.
"I can't imagine you not being able to pull of a date."
Then, something quite surprising and very out-of-character occurred. Jill flushed. It was just a little, and probably due more to the alcool than the compliment, but Rosa couldn't be mistaken. She flushed.
"Well, yeah..." Jill answered. "And it's not that surprising. When they hear me talk, they expect me to be a strong top that have everything for herself, because I carry a gun and I wear my tank tops like I was fresh out of the gym. But the truth is..."
She took a long sip, delaying the words. Rosas waited in silence, almost amused to see her loose her words for the first time ever.
"The truth is, I need care."
What. The. Fuck. The fucking special ops soldier, needing care. Rosa's smile deepened, she had to mouth a "wow" to prevent herself from laughing at her face.
"Fuck. Sorry." Jill added. "I didn't want to bother you with my emotional crap. I must be getting a little drunk."
Rosa's eyebrows raised. She needed to know more.
"So your confident behavior is a facade, huh? Deep down you're clingy, lonely and submissive?"
Jill backed up at these words.
"Relax," Rosa added. "I'm not making fun of you. Hell, I like this side of you even more."
Jill chucked. "What now, you must be happy that you're the only real tough girl in the squad, aren't you? Congrats, you saw through me, you've won. Leave me alone."
Rosa didn't move, and Jill realized she's gone a bit too far.
"Sorry. I know that's not what you meant. Thanks for listening to my ranting. I just don't know what to do anymore."
She raised her glass up to her eyes.
"Except drink alone until the end on the night, then putting up my facade again and going back to the same old routine the morning after."
Rosa rolled her eyes, but a hint of a smirk appeared on her face.
"Shut up. I am the toughest. Period. But you seriously need someone to put you in your place. Remind you to take care of yourself. You're bullshit if you think this will take you anywhere. I'm even surprised you survived being in the STARS."
Jill frowned and raised her voice. "Well sorry, miss-toughest. This is what I am, I need an anchor at home so I can put up a strong face at work. It was easy in the STARS, because there was always something impactful to do. But since it got taken down, I'm just a shadow. There's nothing you can do about it."
Rosa took a step closer to her.
"You wanna bet? I'm just you'd do anything I tell you. I can see that behind that mask you're a submissive little princess."
Jill stood up, closing the distance between them even more.
"Careful, Rosa. You may not want going down that slope. Because if you fuck with me, I'll make you pay. Hard."
Rosa's smirk widened at she could finally see through her facade. Jill was trying to get back in a tough character, but her face betrayed the desire that began to awake deep inside her: her slightly short breath, the hand that clenched hard on the side of the counter, and the little spark in her eyes.
"Pfft. Oh yeah? I'd like you try and make me pay, sweetheart." She leaned into her slightly, to whisper. "You're all bark, no bite."
